The Japanese Alps is in Japan. It is a series of mountain ranges on the main island of Honshū. Memorial plaque of reverend Walter Weston is located at Kamikochi. He was an english missionary who popularized Japanese Alps, now a well known tourist destination liked for its alpine climate.

The Japanese Alps - the Hida Mountains, the Akaishi Mountains and the Kiso Mountains. These ranges include few peaks that exceeds 3,000 m in height, are the tallest after Mount Fuji. The highest ones are Mount Hotaka - 3,190 m (10,466 ft) and also Mount Kita - 3,193 m (10,473 ft). Another Mount Ontake located in Nagano Prefecture (3,067 m, 10,060 ft) is a favourite destination for pilgrimages and an active volcano that erupted recently in 1979 and 1980.

Albertville is located on the Arly River in the French Alps at the Vanoise mountain range. This small town is also best known from hosting the 1992 Winter Olympics Games.

Many sport venues were later used for different purposes. Although Albertville is more commercial than touristic, it was labeled as the “Town of art and history” in 2003.
