Japanese Alps
Monday, May 26th, 2008The Japanese Alps is in Japan. It is a series of mountain ranges on the main island of Honshū. Memorial plaque of reverend Walter Weston is located at Kamikochi. He was an english missionary who popularized Japanese Alps, now a well known tourist destination liked for its alpine climate.
The Japanese Alps - the Hida Mountains, the Akaishi Mountains and the Kiso Mountains. These ranges include few peaks that exceeds 3,000 m in height, are the tallest after Mount Fuji. The highest ones are Mount Hotaka - 3,190 m (10,466 ft) and also Mount Kita - 3,193 m (10,473 ft). Another Mount Ontake located in Nagano Prefecture (3,067 m, 10,060 ft) is a favourite destination for pilgrimages and an active volcano that erupted recently in 1979 and 1980.
