Mont Blanc (in french it means white mountain, or as italian
say Monte Bianco)is the highest mountain in the French
Alps region. French also call it: La Dame Blanche which means
"the white lady".
Elevation: 4,808m/ 15,774ft The mountain is located between regions Haute Savoie (France) and Aosta Valley (Italy). Both countries tends to place it within own borders on maps. According to a convention in 1861 between Kingdom of Sardinia and France, the border should be on the highest point of the mountain. That was the last border definition (official), but often it is not respected.
Chamonix and Courmayeur are towns near Mt. Blanc. Both towns are connected via famous Mont Blanc Tunnel. The tunnel is one of the major cross alpine transport routes. Its construction started in 1957 and was finished in 1965. It is 11,6 km long. Also thanks to this tunnel many travellers and visitors comes each year. The Mont Blanc Massif area is a popular mountaineering, snowboarding, hiking and skiing resort. That is a reason why this resort has been growing and now there are many hotels, pension, chalets and to book accommodation for your vacation or holiday you need to do it in advance.
